How to Do Sri Sukta Homam at Home
- Step 1: Choose an Auspicious Muhurat Consult a pandit or astrologer regarding the correct selection of tithi, nakshatra, and time; preferably Friday or on festivals like Diwali / Dhanteras.
- Step 2: Clean & Prepare the Puja Space First, clean the puja area and arrange a setup facing East or North. Place a homam kund, idol/photo of Goddess Lakshmi, a lamp, and required samagri.
- Step 3: Set up the Kalash Place a Kalash filled with water, mango leaves, and a coconut on top, decorated with red cloth, rice, and flowers.
- Step 4: Sankalpa (Intention) Light the lamp and incense. Now take a Sankalpa, a declaration of intention, for example: wealth, prosperity, removal of obstacles, harmony, or success.
- Step 5: Ganapati Puja Begin the homam by offering flowers and chanting Ganapati mantras to remove any obstacles.
- Step 6: Lakshmi Puja Perform a short puja to Goddess Mahalakshmi by offering her flowers, turmeric, kumkum, milk, honey, fruits, and coins.
- Step 7: Lighting the Homa Fire Put samidha, camphor, and ghee in the homam kund and light the sacred fire.
- Step 8: Offerings with Mantras Begin chanting: “Om Shreem Hreem Kleem Mahalaxmaye Namah” or the Sri Sukta Mantras under Pandit's guidance. Offer to the fire ghee, rice, sesame, dry herbs, and navadhanya with each mantra.
- Step 9: Sri Sukta Recitation Recite all the 16 Sri Sukta verses while offering aahuti into the holy fire for prosperity and wealth energies.
- Step 10: Poornahuti Offer the final aahuti made of coconut, ghee, jaggery, herbs, and rice, wrapped in cloth and place it in the fire.
