This particular homa takes the form of Ashta Dravya, a combination of eight sacred ingredients each symbolizing certain qualities and energies, thus making the ritual more powerful.
Importance of Ganpati Homa

These eight ingredients are the base of the Ashta Dravya Ganpati Homa, where material and spiritual elements join together to bring about a balanced and prosperous life.
Ritual Process
The ritual begins with the invocation of Lord Ganesha through mantras and prayers by the pandits & devotees. In particular, special emphasis is given to Ganapati Atharvashirsha - a powerful text devoted to Ganesha.
The Eight Dravyas: The eight sacred substances (ashta dravyas) are offered into the fire with appropriate mantras. Each substance is offered one by one, symbolizing the offering of different aspects of the life of the devotee to Lord Ganesha.
Chanting of Ganesha Mantras: These 8 dravyas, before being presented in the fire, are preceeded by different mantras associated with Lord Ganesha, recited by pandits. Some of the commonly used Ganesha Gayatri Mantra and Om Gan Ganapataye Namah boost the blessings and remove obstacles.
Homa Fire: The fire in the homa kund is considered to be the channel for the offerings that reach the deity. When the offerings are made to the fire, through the rising smoke, the prayers reach the divine.
Aarti and Prasad: Then, there is an aarti, followed by a distribution of prasad-food blessed by the almighty Lord Ganesha. Spiritual & Scientific importance
