What is Tulsi Vivah?
Tulsi Vivah is a revered Hindu ritual that symbolises the divine marriage of Goddess Tulsi (Vrinda) with Lord Vishnu (or Shaligram).

Story of Tulsi Vivah
The origins of Tulsi Vivah are rooted in the sacred Vedic legends, which are filled with devotion, sacrifice, and divine love. Tulsi, then known as Vrinda, was a pious and devoted wife of the demon king Jalandhar. Her unwavering chastity and deep devotion empowered her husband with a divine Kavach (shield), making him invincible, so much so that even the gods could not defeat him. To restore cosmic balance, Lord Vishnu intervened. Disguising himself as Jalandhar, he deceived Vrinda, breaking her chastity so that the gods could defeat Jalandhar in battle. Upon realizing the deception, a heartbroken Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into a black stone, which is now worshipped as Shaligram, and then immolated herself in grief and spiritual anguish. Deeply moved by her purity and devotion, Lord Vishnu granted Vrinda a boon: She would be reborn as Tulsi, a sacred plant which would be worshipped in every Hindu household as Tulsi Pooja. He promised to marry her every year on the auspicious day of Kartik Ekadashi, which is now celebrated as Tulsi Vivah Puja Vidhi.
