What is Karwa Chauth?
Karwa Chauth is a Hindu celebration observed predominantly in North India, mainly in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Karwa is an earthen pot, and Chauth is the fourth day. It is observed on the fourth day following the full moon of the month of Kartik (October–November).
On this day, the women avoid food and water from sunrise till they see the moon. The evening chauth puja is an important ritual that signifies dedication and prayer for a long and happy married life.
Spiritual Significance of Karwa Chauth
The significance of Karwa Chauth pooja goes beyond fasting. The prayer and sincerity of the woman on this day are believed to keep evil forces at bay for her husband, lengthen his lifespan, and fill their married life with joy and peace.
Spiritually, the Karwa Chauth pooja vidhi is one of self-denial, sacrifice, and pure love. Fasting and supplication together create an aura of good which not only casts a spell of good luck on the couple but on the entire family as well.
