Origin of Durga Puja Festival
The Durga Puja festival celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, representing the triumph of good over evil. As per Hindu mythology, Mahishasura, who was given a boon to be unbeatable, created massive destruction in all three worlds. To tackle the devastating situation, the Gods combined their powers and created Goddess Durga, a divine warrior with ten arms, each holding a weapon.
This fierce battle continued for nine nights and ten days, ending in Mahishasura’s defeat on the tenth day, which is widely celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra.
